POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is primarily responsible for providing exceptional customer services to diverse populations, guiding them through the application and eligibility process for HUD’s Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV), Public Housing, Project Based Voucher (PBV), Rural Development, Low Income Housing Tax Credit, Affordable Housing and other rental assistance programs. Provides a broad range of customer service, administrative support and receptionist functions contributing to the overall effectiveness of the department. Works effectively and cooperatively with a wide range of people, using courtesy, compassion and tact.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The Housing Programs Coordinator I is capable of performing all of the following duties but will be primarily responsible for those assigned to them. The duties of staff in this position may vary in an effort to balance workloads, maximize individual strengths, and provide opportunity for personal and department growth and effectiveness. The essential job functions are not to be considered a detailed description of every duty allocated to this classification but rather an illustration of the more typical functions.
- Serves as a point of contact for BWCHA applicants, providing applicant support throughout the pre-application and application process.
- Provides backup for receptionist.
- Manages multiple program waiting lists simultaneously while ensuring program compliance. Manages waitlist openings and closures, monitors waitlist times, the need for applicants, makes appropriate selections, maintains adequate applicant pools and purges waitlists as necessary.
- Determines initial eligibility for multiple programs including, but not limited to, ensuring all required documentation has been received, completing background screening, income verifications and family composition. Creates/maintains confidential client files.
- Ability to explain complex eligibility requirements to clients and other program rules/requirements.
- Monitors and maintains incoming “portable” inquires, provides appropriate forms and processes application materials.
- Initiates annual recertification process including report monitoring, notification and processing.
- Applies independent judgments to complex housing needs in a fair and consistent manner in accordance with continually changing regulatory rules, HUD regulations and BHA policies and procedures.
- Provides superior customer service to BWCHA clients, landlords, community partners and the general public.
- Provides support to Housing Programs Coordinators, and Housing Inspector as needed.
