Bellingham Technical College (BTC), Bellingham Washington, invites applications for one full-time professional position as a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Specialist to start in November, 2021.  

The DEI Specialist develops and manages outreach at BTC for staff, faculty and students around DEI initiatives, that aligns with the work required by and funded through Senate Bill 5194. The position will strengthen BTC ties and build relationships with groups within Bellingham and the surrounding communities that further the DEI strategic plan. This position will provide education and promotion for BTC’s recruitment, retention, and graduation of students of historically underrepresented backgrounds with specific attention to Black Indigenous People of Color (racial equity). The DEI Specialist will collaborate with the Director of DEI for campus climate work and training programs for on campus and community education.  

Required minimum qualifications include: Demonstrated understanding of post-secondary educational systems/environments (e.g., via professional experience, being a student); Ability to design, deliver, facilitate, and assess culturally responsive, equitable, and engaging programs and services; Knowledge of issues of concern to BIPOC as well as the importance of intersectional identities; 1 year of progressively responsible, direct work experience facilitating diversity, equity and inclusion; Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of DEI (e.g., implicit bias, intersectionality); Experience working with and on behalf of underrepresented and marginalized groups; Proven ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders; Strong oral/written communication skills. 

FT salary is $58,000-$62,000 per year DOQ. Position also receives sick, personal and vacation leave accruals, paid state holidays, Washington State insurance and retirement benefits package, and some tuition waiver benefits.
