Birch Bay Water and Sewer District Located in the scenic Birch Bay area, approximately 9 miles south of Canada and 20 miles north of Bellingham, WA.

Water Utility Operator and Sewer Utility Operator

Job Status: Full-time
Pay range:  $24.36-$34.03 hourly
 District paid healthcare plans with a defined medical allowance, above the base salary, of $2,139 per month.
A variety of plans to choose from and coverage begins at start of employment. The unused amount of the
allowance will be rolled into a HRA VEBA account to cover other medical expenses, such as deductibles, over
the counter medications, etc. Employees may opt out of District healthcare options and receive the medical
allowance in the HRA VEBA account.

2 years’ experience in operations, construction or maintenance. Applicants must have basic mechanical abilities,
and be willing to be trained in the specifics of water and sewer operation. Technical college graduates or
students within a few months of graduation are encouraged to apply.
General Function for Water Utility Operator:

Primary responsibilities include the following;
 Provide general labor assistance to BBWSD water utility operators, including reading water meters,
performing routine equipment checks and cleaning, controlling vegetation around facilities and equipment.
 Assist with maintenance and operations of the BBWSD water distribution system, reservoirs, pump stations
and related sites and equipment.
General Function for Sewer Utility Operator:
Primary responsibilities include the following;
 Performs a variety of functions relating to the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment
Plant and Wastewater Collection System, including Pump Stations.
 Performs standard laboratory analyses necessary for WWTP process control as well as sampling and testing
required under the NPDES permit. Also helps meet the requirements to maintain the wastewater lab
certification status managed by Department of Ecology.
