Position Summary
This position will primarily develop and teach first-year elective courses in art foundations, graphic design, and/or visual communication for students with diverse backgrounds. The position will contribute to the implementation and enhancement of Cascadia's art, design, and visual communication offerings. In addition to teaching classes, duties include working with students one-on-one and collaborating with full-time and part-time faculty members and Learning Center staff members to infuse visual communication into the general education curriculum.
The successful applicant will have the following qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree or MFA in art, graphic design, visual design, or visual communication OR Bachelor’s degree or BFA in art, graphic design, visual design, or visual communication AND Master's degree in related field.
- Recent teaching, professional studio, or agency experience in graphic design.
- Proficiency in at least one digital design software package.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to pluralism and the ability to work effectively with populations representing diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and abilities.
- Successful college-level teaching experience in art foundations, drawing, 2-D design, 3-D design, and/or other visual communication classes.
- Mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud software or other design software as well as teaching methods and best practices related to that software.
- Training in instructional design OR project management.
- Experience in authoring and evaluating digital communication.
- Experience managing or working in a maker’s space or open studio.
