Job Summary:
A non-uniformed, non-sworn employee performing a variety of clerical and secretarial functions with an emphasis on confidentiality. In addition to regular secretarial duties, this position performs research for administrative and operations projects, requiring considerable independent thinking and action; assists in developing grant applications and tracking grant timing and project budgets. Work is performed in accordance with commonly acceptable business and professional practices and departmental rules of conduct.
This position requires consistent attention and commitment to the Police Department's vision and mission. All duties are expected to be performed effectively, efficiently, and in a manner consistent with the Department's policing philosophy. The Administrative Assistant must accept the responsibility to support and promote this organizations mission and comply with all directives. Personal conduct and behavior must be such that it does not bring disrepute or unnecessarily endanger the public*s trust or confidence in the Department or its members. This position requires a high level of problem-solving ability, self-initiative, and the ability and willingness to work considerable time without direct supervision.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to self-direct and organize work time efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to effectively apply written and oral English language skills.
- Ability to effectively work in current Department word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to meet the public and respond to requests for service in a courteous, professional manner.
- Thorough knowledge of filing and records processing practices.
- Thorough knowledge and working ability in the use of police department computers.
- Ability to operate photocopy and fax machines.
- Ability to type with keyboard and typewriter with emphasis on accuracy.
- Ability to work varied hours as need arises.
- Ability to compose documents in a clear, grammatically correct, organized, and logically detailed manner.
- Ability to prioritize and adapt to a multitude of tasks.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other agencies* personnel.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Minimum of high school diploma or GED
- United States Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
- Valid Washington State Driver*s License
- Type 60 words per minute on typewriter and computer keyboard
- Must be able to successfully pass the following:
- Written Civil Service Examination
- Oral Civil Service Examination
- Background Investigation
- Polygraph Examination
- Hearing and Drug Screen Examination
