Grant Coordinator/Student Navigator for its Hospital Employee Education & Training (HEET) grant project.
This is a half-time, grant-funded, FLSA and union exempt, at-will position, reporting to the Associate Dean of Nursing and Surgery Technology. This is a one-year grant, ending June 30, 2020. Grant-funded positions are dependent upon project funding and can end at any time funding is discontinued. This position is not anticipated to continue past June 30, 2020.
The HEET project is designed to create training programs and career ladders in nursing and other high-demand health care fields for incumbent hospital workers. The Grant Coordinator/Student Navigator will work in close collaboration with grant staff, education, management, labor, and community partners to provide support for students and ensure that the grant objectives are met.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Support and coordinate all grant activities, including developing any needed timelines, templates, and processes to facilitate the grant;
- Administer, track, and monitor overall grant budget;
- Gather and track project data, conduct labor and industry needs assessments as needed;
- Prepare and monitor fiscal and technical reports, administer HEET purchase orders and maintain accurate fiscal records;
- Collaborate closely with other staff members to assess progress towards and achieve project goals and objectives;
- Ensure all grant outcomes and deliverables are met in a timely manner;
- Maintain on-going, positive relationships with faculty, administrators and staff to facilitate interdepartmental cooperation and program success;
- Collaborate and oversee grant operations with Whatcom Community College's HEET grant staff;
- Build relationships with other industry, education and workforce organizational partners to meet the outcomes of the grant;
- Pursue institutional funding opportunities and draft HEET 13 grant proposal in collaboration with BTC staff and faculty;
- Assist incumbent hospital employees with their transition into the nursing program, and provide career preparation support and advising to allow for a seamless education-to-career pathway;

- Connect limited-English proficiency students to resources as appropriate;
- Collaborate with nursing faculty and student services staff to support academic progression;
- Facilitate individual student check-ins and regular meetings with groups and/or student cohorts;
- Refer students to on- and off-campus services and resources as appropriate;
- Track the progress of HEET grant eligible students during the educational process and maintain accurate case notes;
- Coordinate supplemental instruction in collaboration with Program and HEET project staff and faculty;
- Perform other duties as assigned in relation to the HEET grant's objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, written and interpersonal communication skills;
- Demonstrated computer software literacy, including Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, Customer Relations (CRM) and Learning Management Systems (Canvas), and online environments;
- Commitment to pluralism and the ability to support a diverse workplace;
- Demonstrated ability to work with students, staff, faculty and community partners in an inclusive and participatory manner;

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications & Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree; AND
- One year of experience in a higher education setting; OR
- A combination of experience and training that provides the applicant with the knowledge and skills to perform the job will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree;
- Experience supporting the success of State or Federal grant projects;
- Familiarity with standard grant regulations and reporting requirements;
- Experience in a technical/community college setting.
- Knowledge of ESL and/or other developmental education programs such as Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (IBEST) and/or Adult Basic Education (ABE);
- Experience and/or certificate in career counseling;
- Experience working in health care or a health-related field.
Physical Work Environment:
The duties of this position are performed in an open office setting in an educational institution. This position interacts directly and frequently with faculty, staff, students and the general public. Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks and prioritize competing demands. Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screens. Frequent oral and auditory communication with others
Supplemental Information
Compensation & Work Schedule:
Salary at 50% is $2,101 per month. Person will be eligible to enroll in the Washington State insurance and retirement program, and will receive paid state holidays. Position is not currently eligible for vacation leave benefits, or other benefits such as Tuition Waiver program. Sick leave will accrue based on I-1433. Work schedule is generally Monday through Friday, during the 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. work day, 20 hours per week. A regular schedule will be finalized upon hire.
