The successful incumbent for this position will be hired within an annualized salary range of $85,504 - $114,005, depending on qualifications for the position. The maximum in this pay scale is $142,506.

Position Summary:

The Hydrogen Plant Operation and Maintenance Specialist will perform operation and maintenance of the District’s hydrogen production facility. 

This position is subject to a one-year probationary period.

 Essential Functions:

• Perform operation and maintenance of the District’s hydrogen production and fueling facilities in accordance with operating procedures and manuals.
• Conduct routine inspections of plant equipment and premises and monitor system integrity.
• Work closely with engineering staff and contractors to plan, schedule, and lay out materials for ongoing construction activity. Provide daily support of construction projects.
• Help develop and carry-out a preventative maintenance program for hydrogen production equipment, including testing, calibration, repairs and replacement of installed equipment.
• Develop and maintain spare parts inventory management system, including procurement.
• Assist in developing and applying Safety Protocol and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Basic understanding and troubleshooting of VFD drives, safety instrumentation, SCADA and other PLC computer based systems.
• Demonstrate a focus on safety in all facets of work, and ensure that all relevant parties are knowledgeable regarding safe operation of hydrogen equipment and infrastructure.
• Respond to off-hour calls.
• Support the District’s mission and value statements in the performance of job duties.
• Work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse groups of people and maintain professional interactions at all times in the workplace.
• Ensure compliance with all District policies.
• Adhere to the District’s Safety Policy and Procedures.
• Operate District vehicles that may be equipped with a GPS device that monitors vehicle location while conducting business on behalf of the District.

 Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions between this position, employees, customers, and other members of the public, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent, on-site attendance while working independently and with others.

 Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to have a detailed understanding of electrolysis, storage and fueling equipment, hazardous gas handling, and overall hydrogen production process. Must understand function, maintenance, and inspection practices of mechanical and electrical equipment as well as instrumentation and control systems basics.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications and technical drawings, including piping and instrumentation diagrams.
• Proven experience as a Millwright or similar role involving mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to display sound judgment, competence, and accuracy in all facets of work.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• In depth knowledge of gas industry codes and handling requirements, including National Fire Protection Association Hydrogen Technologies Code (NFPA-2), environmental, safety, and health procedures and issues.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office application products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Education and Experience:

A minimum of a 2-year degree in industrial technology or equivalent and 5 years relevant experience in industrial maintenance and operations within the gas/oil industry is required. Completed cross training in both mechanical and electrical fields is preferred, or have the combination of education and experience to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience with high-pressure gas pipe system construction and maintenance or hydrogen gas industry infrastructure is highly preferable.

 Certifications:

A valid driver's license and proof of good driving record is required for this position (will be verified upon job offer).  Out-of-state candidates must acquire a Washington State driver's license within 30 days of employment.

 Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in elevated areas, climb ladders and stairs and walk over uneven surfaces.
• Ability to work in all temperature conditions and outside in all weather conditions.
• Ability to lift heavy objects, sometimes weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to sit for long periods of time using office equipment such as keyboard, computer, copier, and telephones.
• Must have a full range of hearing and sight for personal safety.
