About the Department:
Student Health Services (SHS) provides health care services at George Mason University. SHS provides primary care services and health promotion to eligible students at Mason, including but not limited to, initial and follow up assessment, history taking, physical exam of patients, utilization of differential diagnosis, appropriate interventions, consultations and referrals as indicated, and basic emergency treatment and stabilization. Staff provide services to faculty, staff, and visitors on an as needed basis.
About the Position:
The Clinic Administrative Medical Assistant supports the efforts of all SHS clinic locations and shares day to day administrative and clinical responsibilities at the Arlington and Fairfax SHS Campus locations.
Responsibilities:
- Supports students in need of health care services, provides excellent and exemplary customer service to both internal staff and external customers, and represents SHS as a liaison between medical staff/visitors and the front desk;
- Directly supports SHS mission by answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking students in and out of the clinic, communicating with nursing staff to maintain good patient flow, providing medical records scanning and maintenance, and providing administrative support to the Office Manager, Associate Director of Nursing, Associate Administrative Director, Associate Medical Director, and Executive Director as assigned; and
- Supports the nursing team by completing patient intakes and other clinical duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Medical Assistant certification or equivocal training and experience;
- Basic understanding of medical terminology;
- Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records;
- Basic computer knowledge and skills, including Microsoft office, Excel and Outlook; and
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Healthcare Provider BLS certification;
- Experience in a medical office (typically obtained in 1 year), hospital or health care setting;
- Experience with Electronic Health Record and Telehealth;
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records and records management;
- Experience and knowledge of unique needs of a college student;
- Experience with obtaining patient history, vital signs, and chief complaint;
- Basic knowledge of adolescent and adult immunization requirements;
- Experience in payment handling, patient check-in, and patient out procedures; and
- Ability to prioritize and facilitate cohesiveness and team work.
