Kent Corporation is looking for Logistics Manager who will oversee one or some combination of Kent’s motor, rail, or barge transportation programs, ensuring that the correct quantity of product efficiently moves to the required location within deadlines, taking into consideration the priorities, goals and budgetary constraints of the company. The individual is also responsible for the performance, growth, and development of assigned staff, and to collaborate cross-functionally to develop, communicate, and accomplish the Company’s goals and objectives.
This position will be responsible for Kent Corporation’s export transportation program and manage the import/export process and ensure compliance with U.S. and foreign government laws and regulations. The position will also expedite the flow of traffic to/from foreign destinations, including customs documentation and transportation, oversee the completion of paperwork associated with international distribution in a timely manner and negotiate with carriers and handle issues with customs officials.
This position is based in Muscatine, Iowa and offers a complete benefits package.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages the Transportation Department staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. As a first level manager, ensures projects and department goals are met and adhere to approved budgets.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Manages the day-to-day operations of assigned transportation programs for assigned locations.

Provides routing guides and shipping advice as needed.

Plans, organizes and manages the work of assigned staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements.

Strategically balances carrier capacity to freight volume, anticipating needs and adjusting levels to achieve that balance.

Trains, coaches, and supervises assigned staff in support of the assigned program.

Maintains a collaborative relationship with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsible for the maintenance and communication of all written policies and procedures relating to Kent Corporation Transportation Department.

Maintains strong working knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and factors that impact or have the ability to impact our future transportation strategies.

Negotiates transportation contract terms and conditions to maximize value and minimize risk to Kent Corporation. Ensures the highest quality transportation at the lowest practical cost.

Locate, investigate, vet, and contract with carriers to meet the current and future needs of all Kent Corporation companies.

Maintain supplier/carrier relationships.

Revise, update, maintain all carrier contracts, insurance information, and required file documents.

Monitors spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.

Directs investigations to verify and resolves customer or shipper complaints.

Maintains or oversees appropriate record-keeping, including carrier contracts, insurance info and required file documents.

Must be willing and available to field after-hours freight issues, from customers, sales, customer service, production, and contract warehouses, 24-7-365.

Education, Experience & Qualifications:
- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus 8 years’ experience; a Master’s degree in business administration, economics, or related discipline is strongly desired.

Broad knowledge and understanding of all areas of transport operations, the supply chain, budgets and financial controls, and related legislation.

Evidence of ability to lead others and manage the work of others.

Sound understanding of basic accountancy and be numeric as this position requires involvement in managing budgets and the calculation weights and measures.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.

Certified Customs Specialist or equivalent certification.

Process Improvement experience.

Experience of Microsoft Dynamics AX.

Demonstrated advanced competencies in free trade agreements and global contracts review.

Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred.

Extensive knowledge in export compliance regulations and processes.

Extensive knowledge of INCOTERMS.
