Patrol Officer (Lateral)
The Kittitas County Civil Service Commission is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Patrol Officer (Lateral) with the Kittitas County Sheriffs Office. This is non-exempt, benefited, Teamsters Union (Local 760-Line) position.

SALARY RANGE: $5,123-$5,905 per month.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Handle investigations of crimes against persons and/or property determine that an incident may have occurred and respond accordingly. Identify and secure crime scenes to preserve evidence. Evaluate the crime scene to determine the amount of investigation and assistance required. Identify and collect physical evidence. Sketch and photograph the crime scene when appropriate. Prepare arrest and search warrants. Arrest suspects involved in criminal activity. Prepare and write reports to reflect an accurate representation of the investigation.
Secure evidence; properly mark and maintain chain of custody. May send materials to State crime lab. Coordinate with the Prosecuting Attorney and make recommendations for potential charges. Testify in court to the facts of the case. Review cases as needed and follow up if necessary.
Evaluate and protect the scene of the accident. Assist in safeguarding the public from possible hazards resulting from a motor vehicle accident. Diagnose and gather evidence at the scene of a motor vehicle accident, including sketches and photographs of the accident scene. Analyze all information to determine fault at the scene of the motor vehicle accident. Check to make sure the scene is rendered safe for the public once the scene has been processed.
Write accurate reports detailing the actions taken at the scene of the motor vehicle accident. Perform traffic control.Serve civil process documents Maintain a working knowledge of the civil process. Serve civil papers to the appropriate persons/places in a timely manner. Inquire with postal agencies to determine residences of persons to be served civil papers.
Advise respondents of the ramifications if certain orders are violated. Advise involved parties when significant services have been completed. Handle prisoner transports Transfer prisoners to and from jurisdictions. Transfer prisoners to support agencies, hospital mental health centers, alcohol centers, etc. Transfer prisoners to court and court ordered events such as funerals and rehabilitative programs.
