Mount Vernon Library Foundation.
Work with the Foundation and Skagit Senior Center to formulate and direct a capital fund-raising campaign. 2 year contract position at 30 hours/week.
Job Summary: The Development Director provides leadership and direction to establish and conduct a capital campaign combining the requirements for Mount Vernon's new City Library and Skagit County's new Community Center which will be located in a joint facility near the downtown city core. This campaign will raise funds for elements of the facility that are not covered by city, county or state funding. This position will report to the Library Foundation Board President, but will also cooperate closely with the Library Director and County staff. The Development Director will identify and cultivate potential grantors and donors, create and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan, and ultimately build a stable funding base for the combined agency's work. The Development Director is a two-year contract position at approximately 30 hours per week with a starting rate of $32.00 per hour, with an incentive for achieving certain fund raising goals.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and lead a comprehensive capital campaign.
- Supervise and oversee development of an integrated philanthropic effort.
- Coordinate community outreach and engagement.
- Coordinate functions with the Library, County and the Mount Vernon Senior Center Advisory Board.
- Communicate the goals and activities of the Foundation and the funding needs of the Library and Community Center with community groups, agencies, and private businesses; may respond to media inquiries or speak on behalf of the Library and Foundation in fund development matters.
- In line with strategic plan goals, oversee research of funding sources and apply for funding opportunities (grants, endowments, donors, corporate sponsorships, service clubs, and other businesses)
- Create and facilitate a strategic fundraising campaign.
- Develop written proposals, endowment agreements, gift illustrations, and any other materials needed to secure major and planned gifts.
- Develop and implement consistent, ongoing stewardship/recognition practices for donors.
- Oversee design and distribution of printed and electronic materials (branding/ messaging, bi-annual newsletters, social media, giving letters, donor correspondence, donor policies and procedures)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Ability to gain knowledge of Mount Vernon Library and Community Center's policies and procedures.
- A minimum of three years of progressive experience in non-profit fundraising or a combination of development, outside sales or direct marketing experience.
- Bachelor Degree, in Social Sciences, Fund Development, Non-Profit Management, or related field.
- Understanding of the financial and legal requirements for a 501(c)3 non-profit chartered organization.
- Strong data and analysis orientation and experience using metrics to drive development decisions.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Ability to work independently and establish priorities and organize workload; competence in time and project management.
Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of fundraising systems and procedures; federal, state and local laws, tax requirements and financials reports pertaining to charitable solicitation, fundraising, development and philanthropic giving.
- Ability to maintain a pleasant and productive working atmosphere.
- Ability to keep all relevant parties informed of all major issues and to recommend changes as appropriate.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse staff, community members, teams and committees to successfully oversee goals and projects.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other professionals.
- Functional understanding of Microsoft Office Suite as well as knowledge of relevant software such as customer relationship management software or fund raising applications.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
- Office space will be provided, however a major component of being successful in this position is being able to meet personally with various constituencies, prospects, civic organizations, etc. which will require the use of a personal vehicle and therefore a valid driver's license.
- Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting and training rooms, libraries, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic rules when driving.
