THE POSITION AND THE DEPARTMENT
The Associate Vice President of Finance provides vision and strategic leadership for the planning, management, and operations of the college’s Finance subdivision. The Associate Vice President of Finance reports to the Vice President of Administration and is a member of the President’s Administrative Council.
This position will actively advance the college’s strategic goals, including to achieve equity in educational outcomes and to support a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
- At least five years of progressive, professional experience in a financial management or accounting manager/director leadership role.
- At least three years of experience successfully managing, mentoring and developing a team of financial professionals, helping them to set and meet goals and objectives in support of the organization’s mission.
- Ability to function in a complex, high-demand environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
- Highly developed analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated competence in applying the following:
- Generally accepted accounting principles and practices, especially GASB
- Auditing and budgeting principles and practices
- Financial planning and business administration
- Financial statement preparation
- Financial analysis to support managerial decision making
- Written and oral communication sufficient to convey financial information clearly to stakeholders with varying levels of knowledge and expertise
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in public or nonprofit administration, business, finance, or closely related and relevant field of study.
- A professional licensure/certification such as:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
- A record of fostering collaboration, gathering stakeholder input, building transparency and accountability in decision making.
- Experience using financial ERPs, data visualization software, process redesign and electronic workflow.
- Experience with strategic planning, program implementation, and success in reflecting goals and objectives in valid financial scenarios.
- Financial management experience in higher education.
- Evidence of the ability to effectively delegate assignments and identify accountability measures needed to ensure work is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Workday Finance ERP administration experience.
- Experience with Minnesota State budget planning, financial reporting, and business services operations.
