Substation Technician I
Public Utility District No. 1 of Whatcom County is seeking a Substation Technician I to perform operational and maintenance activities required for the District’s electric substations. Requires working knowledge of substations including high and medium voltage equipment, transformers and switchgear. Must have the ability to operate controllers and to program automated instruments such as Variable Frequency Drives, install electronic relays, instruments and controls for newly installed machines and equipment such as transformers, pumps and programmable controllers. This position participates in the development of electrical specifications for projects and bid documents and completes field supervision of District electrical contractors.
Candidates must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and communicate clear and concise verbal instructions and information to coworkers, customers and the public.
High school diploma or GED and successful completion of a Substation Technician, Wireman Apprenticeship or District-approved equivalent. A minimum of five (5) years experience on 115 kV substation operations and maintenance, practical experience in large electric motors (480 to 2400 Volt and 75 to 700 Hp) motor controls relay and control equipment, preferably in a transmission and distribution utility.
Hiring Salary Range: $34.46 - $40.46 hourly (DOE) including excellent benefits.
