Job Description:

Description of Duties:

This posting is for five (5) post-baccalaureate Research Assistants in the Berglund, Chandrasekaran, Chen, and Yigit labs at the RNA Institute at UAlbany (SUNY). Successful candidates will engage in full-time experimental and/or computational research related to nucleic acid biophysics under the guidance of senior scientists. They will learn to plan and execute studies, analyze and report results in posters and manuscripts, as well as help train undergraduate researchers. Specific research interests of each lab are described at www.albany.edu/rna/research-rna-institute.

These are "gap-year" training opportunities for recent graduates seeking an intensive research experience before transitioning to either industry or graduate school. Appropriate career development opportunities will be provided, such as training in mentorship, writing manuscripts, and presenting at scientific conferences. 1-year initial term renewable for additional years depending on satisfactory research progress and availability of funds.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A recent bachelor's degree (could be Spring 2025 grad) in a STEM field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization and a minimum of 3 months research experience in Chemistry/Biochemistry/Biophysics.
  • Must have a passion for science and strong desire to pursue a scientific career.
  • Must be able to work well as part of a team, be self-motivated, and have good time management skills.
  • Must be willing to relocate to Albany, NY (all positions are in-person).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemistry/Biochemistry/Biophysics or related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization with substantial (>1 year) lab research experiences (i.e. senior thesis, REUs, lab internships, etc.) or MS degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization with research thesis.
  • Familiarity with biomolecular characterization techniques (experimental or computational)
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting and optimizing experiments
  • Scientific presentation experience (i.e. presented posters/talks at conferences, workshops, etc.)
  • Leadership & mentoring experience (i.e. teaching assistant, student tutor, resident advisor, camp counselor, etc.)

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $36,000 - $42,000
