Job Description:
General Summary: Provides custodial services for University buildings. Supervises, trains, and equips part-time and full-time student employees.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and shower rooms including fixtures in accordance with established practices/procedures.
- Dusts and wipes furniture; mops or vacuums floors; empties wastebaskets and trash containers; empties and cleans ashtrays/cigarette urns; replaces light bulbs; refills restroom dispensers.
- Uses and maintains assigned power equipment and hand tools such as vacuum cleaners, broom, mop and squeegee for cleaning and general maintenance of the floors, walls, carpets, etc.
- Follows instructions regarding use of chemicals and supplies.
- Washes walls and equipment; uses ladders when required on work assignments.
- May perform cleaning and related activities in areas within a reasonable distance from buildings using hand-operated tools and/or removing snow or debris or sweeping stairs and sidewalks.
- Supervises, trains, and equips part-time and full-time student employees as listed above. This includes monitoring employees' work and ensuring all work is done correctly.
- May operate high-pressure washers, roto-washers, a carpet extractor, buffer, and/or other floor care equipment as needed.
- May move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools on an occasional basis, most often to return rooms to their original configuration and/or for cleaning purposes.
- Washes interior and easily accessible exterior windows.
- May clean appliances and living areas between occupancies in residential houses/areas.
- May be required to lay carpet tiles in the gym and/or assist with other even support activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must have at least 1 year of related experience, 2 years preferred.
- Must have valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to drive service vehicle to transport heavy equipment, rags, spray bottles, and other cleaning equipment, supplies.
- Ability to use high-pressure washers, roto-washers, upholstery machine, carpet extractors, buffer, vacuum cleaners, broom, mop and squeegee. PPE used: safety goggles, nitrile gloves, and leather shoes.
- Education or training at the level to ensure ability to read and write in English.
Additional Information:
For this position, female applicants are preferred. This custodian will serve dorms areas that house exclusively female residents.
