The Bellingham Herald
Bellingham, WA Intern/Co-op
Posted on May 2, 2018

Our company: The Bellingham Herald is one of 30 news organizations in the McClatchy Company. We’re a Northwest news and information company, with our newspaper, bellinghamherald.com  and other products on different delivery platforms. We primarily serve the city of Bellingham and Whatcom County, Washington. The county is just south of the Canadian border and has a population of 200,000 that enjoys the bay-to-mountains recreational amenities.

The summer internship/core mission: Our goals are many. First is to educate and train aspiring journalists in the principles and rigors of their desired profession. Second is to bring new voices to our newsroom to give us fresh perspectives. Third is to put you to work – you will write stories, take photos, make videos and work with social media while you learn. Fourth, this can be a try-out. We are surveying and assessing future journalists either to fill jobs or to recommend to our colleagues in other news organizations around the nation. McClatchy interns have moved on to become reporters, editors and publishers.

The program: Our interns are vital and we value them. The internship is 11 weeks, 40 hours per week, at $12.50 an hour. The schedule could include nights/weekend hours.
