Special Education Director
POSITION: SPECIAL EDUCATION DIRECTORY
SUPERVISOR: SUPERINTENDENT/PRINCIPAL
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborates with district administrator(s) and special education teacher and paraeducators for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.
2. Directs personnel for the purpose of delivering services which conform to established guidelines.
3. Develops proposals, new programs, budgets and grants for the purpose of meeting District goals.
4. Evaluates SPecial Education programs and monitors the implementation of new programs.
5. Facilitates meetings and processes for the purpose of implementing and maintaining Special Education programs and services of the district which achieve desired objectives.
6. Manages fiscal resources related to special education.
7. Monitors maintenance of effort reports and ensures that they are completed and submitted in a timely fashion.
8. Prepares documentation and reports data to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the purpose of compyling with Federal and State regulations.
9. Communicated information on programs, service, and regulations to school personnel, parents, the Board of Directors, and other districts.
10. Recruits, supervises, and evaluated itinerant special education staff including but not limited to speech pathologists and assistants, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.
11. Serves as the District Representative for IEP meetings when resources beyond school budgets may be considered.
12. Coordinates with outside agencies to provide services to students and staff.
13. Directs the Medicaid Administrative CLaining process and direct billing of Medicaid-eligible special education services provided by the DIstrict.
14. Maintains a high level of knowledge regarding developing special education issues, changes in the laws and case law, and educational methods of educating students with disabilities.
15. Advises the Superintendent regarding special education and other matters.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess current Washington State Administrator certificate.
2. Knowledge of special education curriculum and programming, Washington and Federal education law and regualtions, District policies.
3. Skills to manage personnel and programs, communicate effectively, problem-solve.
4. Abilites to sit for prolonged periods, provide direction to others and make independent judgments, keep and maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, communicate in oral or written form.
5. Employee is frequently required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, or use hands and fingers, and is occasionally required to push, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
6. Prior teaching experience with increasing levels of administrative responsibility in Special Education curriculum preferred.
7. Washington Administrator license, Washington State Patrol background check clearance.
EVALUATION: Annually. To be completed by July 1.
