Day Habilitation Counselor
Position Summary
The role of the Day Habilitation Counselor teaches adults with developmental disabilities independent living skills, personal awareness, provides community access, and serve as a liaison with the community and Vanderheyden. Works with adults with developmental disabilities in community based settings, assisting in all areas of daily living and communication.
Required Education, Knowledge and Skills:
- Associates degree preferred.
- Must have at least 2 years’ experience in serving individuals with developmental disabilities.
Abilities and Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work an AWAKE first shift.
- Must have a valid NYS driver’s license.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Willing to flexible in terms of working autonomously in the community.
- Must have intermediate skills in Microsoft word and excel.
- Ability to deal positively with changing priorities in a fast paced environment.
- Exhibits a professional, courteous demeanor with internal and external constituents.
