They establish a team commitment to diversity and social justice and ensure inclusive practices are part of individual, team and systems practices. Reporting directly to the Associate Director for OCAS, the Manager supervises a full-time Data Consultant and their team of student systems developers. This includes: maintaining the housing occupancy database with data connections and information file feeds to/from University partners, providing end user support and driving innovation. This position works with university partners to ensure UR data for students and staff is accurate across University systems. The Manager for Technology is critical personnel in the event of a crisis or evacuation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Housing Software

  1. Primary responsibility for the operation of the StarRez housing management system.
  2. Perform maintenance and continual updates in StarRez including term updates, data import configuration, export information for university partners.
  3. Maintain departmental information, users, and access in university enterprise systems.
  4. Serve as departmental liaison to university partners and with StarRez regarding any and all operations associated with the program.
  5. Provides internal customer support for professional and student staff for the StarRez system.
  6. Makes recommendations for continual improvement using technology/software.
  7. Leads projects relying on the housing database integration including fully testing processes before launching them.
  8. Develops reports, dashboards, and other tools to share relevant data with professional staff and campus partners.
  9. Develops and trains students, professional staff and campus partners on all aspects of the StarRez program.
  10. Manages a master calendar of internal and student-facing settings for StarRez taking into account departmental processes.
  11. Work with the Assistant Director for Assignments, Marketing, and Communications to design, test, implement and assess all assignment processes.

Technology Service

  1. Provide ongoing training and support documentation on software used by the department.
  2. Assists the Assistant Director for Assignments, Marketing, and Communication in all aspects of the assignment process in relation to the StarRez occupancy management program.
  3. Assists all functions relating to the room assignments, room selection, room change, and room inspection processes as it relates to the StarRez management program.
  4. Provide assistance for staff experiencing technology related issues.
  5. Represent the department at meetings related to technology implementation or programs being developed by the University.
  6. Assist in project implementation of new technology utilized by housing.
  7. Coordinates the interplay of the departmental calendar with current technology to ensure consistent delivery of services.
  8. Proactively develop relationships with University partners for all related technology issues and opportunities.

Supervision

  1. Supervise full-time Data Consultant position.
  2. Indirectly supervises student web development team.
  3. Actively engage in recruitment, selection and training of new employees.
  4. Clearly defines performance expectations, ensure accountability and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching and mentoring. Conducts formal performance evaluation.
  5. Conduct regular meetings with direct reports; attend team meetings as needed.

Department and Divisional Support

  1. Disseminate critical information related to technology software.
  2. Consult on emergency preparedness and response processes and protocols.
  3. Serve as a department liaison to university technology partners.
  4. Serve as a resource during student emergency and crisis situations.

  • Required Education and/or Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution AND three years of direct experience working with technology in a related capacity
      • OR
    • High School Diploma/Equivalency AND nine years directly related working experience in a similar capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline.
  • Previous experience in a comprehensive housing and residence life program serving a comparable residential campus population.
  • Experience with StarRez housing management software or similar cloud-based software.
  • Experience using university enterprise systems such as Ellucian Banner and CBORD.
  • Experience developing, implementing and assessing technology projects.
  • Flexible, innovative management style that delivers outcomes required for a modern learning enterprise.
  • Team player with a positive outlook dedicated toward constant improvement
  • Experience with the administration and configuration of enterprise applications/systems
  • Experience working with SQL.
  • Experience working with REST APIs.
