Director for Student Success and Retention
The Director Student Success and Retention provides leadership and management for outreach and entry, progression, and completion processes and provides inspirational leadership in strengthening student support interventions and systems to advance equity and pathway completion. Primary success and retention responsibilities include leadership and support for closing achievement gaps, development and assessment of retention and completion programs and services, management of the College’s Academic Progress Policy, new student orientation, educational planning courses (EDPL), Early Alert, federal grant activities, and first year experiences. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Services, this position also serves as a leader with faculty and staff to collaboratively implement and assess student completion initiatives identified through the US Department of Education Title III Cooperative Arrangement Development (CAD) Grant and Upward Bound Grant. The Director for Student Success and Retention works closely with students, faculty, and staff to holistically improve practices and interventions that support a strengths-based, culturally responsive approach to student completion for Whatcom Community College’s diverse student population.
